How to set your petitevague tide clock?

Thank you for choosing a Petite Vague tide clock, handcrafted from wood and recycled materials from the Basque and Landes coast.

Here's how to set your clock to accurately tell you the tidal cycles in your area.

How does a tide clock work?

Unlike a conventional clock, a tide clock does not follow a 24-hour cycle, but a 12-hour and 25-minute cycle, corresponding to the average time between two successive high tides. It therefore allows you to know at a glance whether the tide is rising or falling.

Initial Setting of Your Tide Clock

1️⃣ Find the time of the next high tide

• Consult a specialized site (like maree.info ), a mobile application, or the tide calendar for your region.

• Note the exact time of the next high tide in your area.

2️⃣ Set the clock hand

• Using the wheel on the back, gently turn the needle until it points to “High Tide” (or “High Water”) at the exact moment high tide occurs.

• Make sure to align the needle with the corresponding indicator.

3️⃣ Start the movement

• Once the hand is correctly positioned, insert an AA battery and start the clock.

⚠️ Avoid using "super power" batteries, which tend to disrupt the mechanism. Use standard batteries instead.

• From this moment on, the clock will automatically follow the tidal cycle.

📆 Adjustments and maintenance

🔹 Monthly correction

• Tide times vary slightly due to lunar and weather influences. It is advisable to check and adjust the clock monthly to remain accurate.

🔹 Battery change

• When the clock slows down or stops, replace the battery to ensure proper operation.

🔹 Maintenance

• Gently clean your clock with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid prolonged exposure to excessive moisture.
